Senator Bong Go formally withdrew his candidacy for president in the 2022 elections.
BONG GO — The incumbent senator formally withdrew his certificate of candidacy (COC) for president in the 2022 elections.
On Tuesday, Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go formally withdrew his candidacy for president at the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) office.
Onboard a taxi, the senator said that he didn’t even inform anyone about his decision to go to the COMELEC office, not even his security guards nor drivers.
The senator told reporters outside the COMELEC office that he’s out of the presidential race, adding that he just waited for the proper time and had to make it clear to his supporters that he’s certain and true to his word.
“Wala na po ako sa karerang ito no, sa pagtakbo,” Go said. “Naghanap lang lang po ako ng tamang panahon at pinapaintindi ko po sa aking mga supporters na talagang desidido na po ako at ako po’y may isang salita.”

In a surprising turn of events last month, the senator became the new standard-bearer of PDDS (Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan) while Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa withdrew his candidacy for president under PDP-Laban.
With the filing of Dela Rosa’s COC withdrawal, Go withdrew his candidacy for vice president to pursue the country’s top position under Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan and was even accompanied by President Duterte who later filed his candidacy for senator.
But a few weeks ago, the senator started having doubts about his presidential bid and admitted that it might not yet be his time to become the country’s leader.
Having said this, the senator said that he left his fate to God and the Filipino people as he vowed to do his best every day to serve tirelessly and selflessly.
When asked whose presidential bid would Senator Go and President Duterte support next year, the senator said that they would still have to discuss it.
“Pag-uusapan pa namin ni Pangulong Duterte kung sino nga po makapagpapatuloy ng pagbabagong inumpisahan ni Pang. Duterte yung mga programang magaganda,” Go said.
President Duterte withdraws candidacy for senator
Hours after Go’s withdrawal from the presidential race, President Duterte also withdrew his candidacy for senator in the 2022 elections as he personally filed his statement of withdrawal with the COMELEC.
Prior to this, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has endorsed the senatorial bids of her father and 6 others for the 2022 polls.
