President Duterte: “I walk with a limp kasi the last time, hindi ako nakarecover.”
PRESIDENT RODRIGO DUTERTE — The Philippine President shared on Monday that he walked with a limp because of a motorcycle accident.
In a speech when he inspected seaport and airport improvements in General Santos City, the President said that he has had many accidents on the motorcycle and he can no longer walk straight because there’s a problem with his spinal cord.
But the President said that he continued riding motorcycles, saying that it’s better if a person died while doing his/her favorite.
“Marami akong disgrasya sa motor… I walk with a limp kasi the last time, hindi ako nakarecover tapos yong spinal ano ko parang may diperensya talaga, so hindi na ako makalakad na ano, straight,” President Duterte said. “Gusto ko rin mamatay na nakamotor. Kung mamatay ka lang naman, doon na sa paborito mong—kung mamatay ka nang mabaril ka, walang kuwenta.“
To recall, Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go said last 2019 that President Duterte fell off his 650cc dirt bike after he made a sharp turn and landed on his left elbow.

ABS-CBN News reported that two other officials had different versions of the said incident.
According to then Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo, the President was reaching for his shoe when he fell off the parked motorcycle resulting in “light bruises and slight scratches”.
Then Presidential Security Group (PSG) Commander Brigadier General Jose Niembra, meanwhile, said that the President was trying out motorcycles when he bumped into an “obstruction” on his way out of a garage in the compound.
The President appeared to lose his footing during his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) last July. Then Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that the President merely “slipped” and there’s no “extraordinary” problem with his health.
President Duterte also appeared to lose his balance during an Independence Day program in Bulacan province last June. At that time, Malacañang said that it was a “simple misstep” as it again denied that the President has a serious health problem.
According to a report, President Duterte had said that he suffered from Barrett’s esophagus, an inflammation of the tube connecting the mouth to the stomach.
President Duterte, in various instances, has said that he also struggled with migraines, back pains, and Buerger’s disease, which was linked to blockages in the blood vessels associated with heavy smoking during his youth.
