President Duterte ruled out a coalition with Lakas-CMD.
PRESIDENT RODRIGO DUTERTE — The incumbent Philippine President ruled out a coalition with Lakas-CMD because of this reason.
In a speech to local leaders in Oriental Mindoro last November 18, but aired only on state-run channels last November 19, the President said that the reason why he wouldn’t want an alliance with Lakas – Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) was because “andiyan si Marcos“.
President Duterte then turned up the heat on former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr, calling him “a weak leader” and “spoiled child”.
“No, I cannot because andiyan si Marcos eh, hindi ako bilib diyan, he’s really a weak leader,” President Duterte said when asked if PDP-Laban would have a coalition with Lakas-CMD. “Totoo ‘yan, hindi ako naninira ng tao, kasi spoiled child, only son, of course he can talk, he delivers English articulate, nag-aral kasi kung saan-saan, pero kung sabihin mo may crisis, ganun, he’s a weak leader at may bagahe siya.“
Although Bongbong was with the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), his running mate was President Duterte’s daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte who had recently shifted to Lakas-CMD.
Bongbong’s spokesperson Vic Rodriguez told radio DZRH early Friday that they “do not feel alluded” to the accusation and that they “respect the President”.

President Duterte also endorsed Senator Bong Go for president in the belatedly-aired speech.
“‘Yung kalaban niya ngayon, dalawa na lang sila sa political horizon, nagtataka rin ako kung bakit suddenly naging fascinated ang tao,” the President said. “Kaya kung mag-gamble kayo, basta nasabi ko na sa inyo.“
The President expressed his full support for the local candidates of the PDP-Laban-PDDS alliance and assured that they will campaign as one and will work as one.
President Duterte explained that while they’re running for election under the banner of PDDS, their campaign as candidates for the PDP-Laban constitution was allowed to strengthen the party’s chances of victory during the 2022 elections.
The President, however, stressed that he would remain a PDP-Laban member and will not abandon those who helped him in his governance programs.
