President Duterte reportedly endorsed Bong Go – Sara Duterte tandem during a meeting with lawmakers.
GO-DUTERTE — President Rodrigo Duterte reportedly endorsed the tandem of Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte for president and vice president, respectively, during a meeting with lawmakers in Malacañang last Tuesday night.
On Wednesday, Diwa Party-list Representative Michael Edgar Aglipay, who was present during the said meeting, said that about 95 other members of the House of Representatives were present when they heard President Duterte’s pronouncements, including Speaker Lord Allan Jay Velasco.
“Si Pangulo, mabilis lang nagsalita, na ang ine-endorse ang Bong Go-Sara Duterte tandem,” Aglipay said in an interview with reporters.
The said meeting was confirmed by Cabinet Secretary and acting Presidential Spokesperson Karlo Nograles, saying that it was an “informal and relaxed gathering” with lawmakers, many of whom were friends of President Duterte.
According to Nograles, the President was expected to join more similar gatherings with “friends and allies” considering the steady decline of coronavirus cases.
“It was, for the President, an opportunity to see friends he had not personally seen since the onset of the pandemic due to the restrictions that had been put in place,” Nograles said in a statement.

Notably, House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez and other members under Lakas-CMD weren’t present during the said meeting.
Romualdez was the cousin of presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr who will be running in tandem with Mayor Sara for the 2022 elections under the so-called “UniTeam”.
On the other hand, Mayor Sara was running for vice president under Lakas-CMD.
Meanwhile, Senator Go and President Duterte abandoned PDP-Laban to run under the Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS) for president and senator, respectively.
