Office of the Vice President on fake order scam: “Dedma sa ganitong kacheapan.”
OVP – The Office of the Vice President has been victimized by a fake order scam worth P100,000.
Atty. Barry Gutierrez, the spokesperson of Vice President Leni Robredo revealed that an online poser pretended to be the presidential bet and placed multiple cash-on-delivery orders worth a whopping P100,000 from an online grocery platform called MetroMart.
It was addressed to the Office of the Vice President in Quezon City.
Robredo’s office has already secured the number used for the fake order scam and currently investigating the incident.
“There has been some initial consultation with our lawyers, but specific options will be discussed once we get more information on who may be responsible,” the spokesman said.
According to Gutierrez, the scammers did not even think its a hassle and a waste of time for delivery riders.
Fortunately, the orders have been canceled and the items were returned and nothing was charged to the delivery riders as per the OVP’s arrangement with the delivery platform.
On the other hand, the Office of the Vice President “gave the riders something to compensate them for the two hours they lost because of this scam.”
This is not the first time such an incident happened.
Back in July, five delivery riders were allegedly scammed by someone who pretended to be a staff of presidential aspirant Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso who ordered pizza, chicken, and Lechon.
According to the National Bureau of Investigation, a person who is posing as someone else to book fake orders might face 6 years to 12 years of imprisonment due to identity theft.
