Boxing is the sport or practice of fighting with fists, especially with padded gloves in a roped square ring according to prescribed rules.

It is considered an extreme sport and only a few make a name out of it.

Among those who are popular in the field of boxing is no less than former boxer-turned-politician, Senator Manny Pacquiao.

Given the intensity of this combat sport, a boxer needs to undergo training before engaging in a match whether it would be amateur or professional.

However, undergoing training was too late for a certain Nathan Valencia.

Valencia is a 20-year-old Filipino-American student of the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV).

Recently, he joined in a charity boxing event organized by local fraternities of the school where he attends.

But the latter barely finish the match and after the fight, he could barely stand on his own while the winners are being announced.

Eventually, he was rushed to a hospital after collapsing. Unfortunately, he did not survive his bout between life and death and was pronounced dead on Tuesday (US time).

His mother shared in an interview with the local press that she actually wanted her son to back out of the match. However, her child insisted despite the fact he’s not a trained boxer.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident.

According to Atty. Nick Lasso, the legal counsel of family Valencia, said that no medical help was present during the match. Aside from that, there was no professional referee at the time.

The Filipino-American college student was supposed to turn 21 this weekend.
