Pilo Hilbay Leaves Party of Mayor Isko Moreno, Supports Vice Pres. Leni Robredo
PILO HILBAY – The former Solicitor General of the Philippines resigned from Mayor Isko Moreno’s party and announced support for Vice President Leni Robredo.
The period set by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) for the filing of the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) is over and the popular presidential aspirants have been determined.
According to COMELEC, there is a total of 97 COCs for president filed and they are set to screen the candidacies to check if there are nuisance candidates or those who do not really intend to run for public office.
Many people are already open about their bet for president in the Election 2022. Some of these are political leaders and those who have worked in the public office. Former Solicitor General of the Philippines Pilo Hilbay is one of those who announced their support for a presidential aspirant.
Recently, the statement of Pilo Hilbay went rounds on social media after the former Solicitor General resigned from Mayor Isko Moreno’s party, Aksyon Demokratiko, to support Vice Pres. Leni Robredo’s bid for the presidency.
In his statement, Hilbay clarified that he respects the decision of his party who nominated Mayor Isko for president but he also admitted his belief that Vice Pres. Robredo “is a much better candidate in this most crucial of elections”.
According to the former Solicitor General, he intends to publicly support the bid of Vice Pres. Robredo as an ordinary citizen thus he decided to leave the only party he has joined. He cited the reasons why he believes in the Vice President when it comes to the national issues and responsibilities.
“We need a president who will confront problems not with publicity stunts to manipulate Filipinos but with honest-to-goodness attempts at solutions. Leni Robredo is that leader,” Hilbay stated.
Furthermore, in the statement he posted on Facebook, Pilo Hilbay stressed that a candidate who wakes up early only during elections is not a leader and the country does not deserve another “absentee president”. The former Solicitor General stressed that Vice Pres. Robredo is the “president” who understands “why the Marcoses are a current threat”, who wants to hold Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte and his cronies accountable, and who wants to defend the rights of the country on the disputed islands.
“She will continue to be honest, open-minded, transparent, and one with the citizens. She will respect her office and the Constitution,” Hilbay stated.
