Is Sen. Bong Revilla Running for President in 2022?

BONG REVILLA – The actor-turned-senator broke his silence on the possibility of running for president under the LAKAS-CMD party.

Talks about the Election 2022 are undeniably everywhere now. The period set for the filing of candidacies is over and the presidential aspirants were determined. However, undeniably, the people know that substitutions are possible.

According to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), there are 97 aspirants for the presidential bid in 2022. They will screen the COCs to check if there are nuisance candidates or those who do not really take the presidential bid seriously.

Amid the people expecting or acknowledging the possibility of substitutions, there are reports that LAKAS-CMD is urging Sen. Bong Revilla to be its standard-bearer in the Election 2022. The LAKAS-CMD is the political part of former Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has no intention to take a presidential bid in 2022 thus LAKAS-CMD Deputy Speaker Prospero Pichay is reportedly urging the Senator to run for president next year.

Recently, Sen. Bong Revilla broke his silence and put an end to speculations. According to the report, the Senator stressed that he is honored by the trust and confidence of his party, the LAKAS-CMD, but he has no intention to run for president.

On the last day set by COMELEC for the filing of the COCs which was October 8, 2021, Anna Capella and Lyle Fernando Uy filed their candidacies. Pichay previously said that Capella and Uy are just “placeholders”.

Later on, Pichay retracted his previous statement explaining that he did not understand the meaning of the word “placeholder” which he used. He denied that it is the role of Capella and Uy.

After the period set by COMELEC for the filing of candidacy closed, several known personalities wants substitutions not to be allowed. The matter has yet to be tackled deeply.
