WHAT EXACTLY IS MODULAR LEARNING
Through modular learning, students are taught through self-learning “modules”. These are printed by the teachers and distributed to students.
Furthermore, education secretary Leonor Briones called this the “Backbone” of distance learning.
ISSUES WITH MODULAR LEARNING
However, although this is a more accessible option for students who don’t have an internet connection, several key issues still need to be addressed.
IS MODULAR LEARNING EFFECTIVE? – What would be the point of doing modular learning when the students don’t actually learn?
Thousands of parents and students complained about modular learning being about answering workbooks instead of knowledge. As such, there are many instances where parents themselves answer the modules instead of their children.
TEACHERS AND STUDENTS ARE AT A DISADVANTAGE
With modular learning, both students and teachers are at a disadvantage. It’s obviously hard to absorb new information, especially without a teacher guiding you. Meanwhile, teachers would have a hard time distributing the modules, especially to students who live far away.
Additionally, a lack of funding also affects the teachers as many have claimed to have personally shoulder printing costs for workbook materials.
