Following Facebook’s announcement that it was changing the parent company’s name, Meta was reportedly working on a new smartwatch with built-in camera.
Facebook recently announced that it was changing the parent company’s name to Meta, which reflected on what the company called “Metaverse” — a strategy for mixed reality (MR) platform that will combine all of the parent company’s apps in one place.
Meanwhile, 9to5Mac reported that a photo of Meta’s new smartwatch has leaked on the web — and it revealed a smartwatch with a built-in camera.
Bloomberg reported that the image of the said device was found inside the company’s app for managing Ray-Ban Stories — a pair of smart glasses that can record and upload videos to Instagram and Facebook.
Based on the leaked photo, Meta’s new smartwatch will have a square-shaped display with rounded corners and thin edges.
What’s interesting about this smartwatch was that it has a camera that was built into the bottom of the screen, which had a small notch.

Hardware details were unknown as of this writing, but Bloomberg reported that Meta’s new smartwatch will have detachable wristbands and a button on the top of the case.
The built-in camera on Meta’s smartwatch was expected to enable video conferencing apps, something that not even Samsung or Apple currently offered on their respective smartwatches.
Bloomberg also reported that Meta planned to launch its new smartwatch “as early as 2022”, but a decision hasn’t been made yet according to people familiar with the matter.
With support for both Android and iOS phones, Mark Zuckerberg’s parent company certainly hoped to compete with the Apple Watch.
