Iloilo City mayor supports presidential bid of VP Leni Robredo

JERRY TREÑAS – The incumbent mayor of Iloilo City confirmed that he’s supporting presidential candidate, VP Leni Robredo in the 2022 elections.

Robredo will run for the highest position in the government in the coming polls.

She will go against presidential aspirants such as; former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and senators Manny Pacquiao, Ping Lacson and Bato dela Rosa.

A lot of personalities, celebrities, and even politicians have expressed their support to Leni, and among those is Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas.

It was on the evening of Sunday, October 17 when he posted a photo of him alongside Robredo during the vice-president’s visit last March.

His post was accompanied by the caption: “Para maganda ang gising nyo bukas” and it was flooded with reactions.

The following day, he took to the social networking site, Facebook wherein he thanked the vice president for her support to Iloilo City amid addressing the pandemic.

When asked about Robredo, he told Rappler that he was merely thanking the latter whom he called his “friend among the presidential candidates.”

According to him, he would wait for the decision of his party, the National Unity Party (NUP) with regards to the presidential bet they are backing for the coming elections.

On Friday, the mayor of Iloilo City wore a blue shirt with pink ribbon for a photo with the city’s LGBT Affairs chief Gab Umadhay.

He was then asked for comment to confirm if he’s endorsing Robredo and he responded with: “Yes, definitely.”
