Desperate Man Seeks Help Due to Gambling Addiction
A desperate man sought help to the authorities due to gambling addiction after winning then losing P1-M in online sabong.
A man named Roman tried online sabong (cockfight) with P600 bet and learned the process. He kept on playing until he tried to bet a little bit bigger than the usual amount he would spend for it.
Eventually, Roman reached the point of betting up to P6, 000. He tried to bet P10, 000 and had a series of successful transaction via online sabong. He won up to P1, 000, 000 in total.
“‘Yung sampu, nanalo ng 9,000, 19,000 totodo ko, hanggang sa pag nanalo ulit, rolling-rolling, kaya umabot ng 1 million yon yung 10,000 libo ko,” Roman said.
Unfortunately, the P1 million prize did not last long because he became “uncontrollable”. He tried to stop from gambling but his addiction to gambling is overwhelming him.
The guy ran out of money and his gambling addiction has started to affect his relationship with his family after spending the P300, 000 saving of his wife who is working as a teacher.
The man decided to seek help from experts to overcome his addiction. Luckily, a psychologist said that his addiction can be treated. A rehab facility counselor also praised him for making the right decision.
“An [addiction] happens when a person is so invested in one thing which has become uncontrollable and is beginning to damage your relationships with your family and others. It can also affect your job since you’re just focused on that one thing—in this case, gambling,” the psychologist said.
Roman also accepted the truth that he need to live with the consequence of his actions.
