Philippine Red Cross To President Duterte: “PRC audit is conducted by a private international accounting firm.”

After President Rodrigo Duterte called on state auditors to audit the non-government organization, the Philippine Red Cross said that the PRC audit was conducted by a “private international accounting firm.”

On Friday, the Philippine Red Cross had assured the public that the humanitarian organization was going through stringent auditing processes carried out by an international company.

According to the Philippine Red Cross, the organization wasn’t subject to state audits as it wasn’t a government entity.

In a statement, PRC governors said that the PRC audit was “conducted by a private international accounting firm” which was also the auditor of Red Crescent Societies and the International Federation of Red Cross which received a copy of the independent audit report.

According to PRC governors, there had been “no findings of any wrongdoing” on the part of the organization or its officers.

Amidst our regular operations and the hundreds of millions entrusted to the PRC by our local and international partners for initiatives in major disasters like Typhoon Haiyan, TS Ondoy, and TS Sendong, to name a few, there have been no findings of any wrongdoing on the part of the institution or its officers,” PRC governors said.

The statement came after President Duterte claimed during his Talk to the People address aired late Thursday that Senator Richard Gordon, who was also the chairperson of the Philippine Red Cross, was using the organization for his political plans.

Senator Gordon and President Duterte have figured in a recent spat after the Senate blue ribbon committee started an investigation on the national government’s procurement of supposedly overpriced personal protective equipment (PPE) when the pandemic broke out last year.
