Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and HNP withdrew the support to Malacañang-backed PDP-Laban.
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and her regional party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), withdrew the support to Malacañang-backed PDP-Laban party in its campaign for the 2022 elections.
Mayor Sara, the daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte, made this clear on Thursday notwithstanding the nomination of her father as the nominated vice-presidential candidate of the Cusi-led PDP-Laban a day before.
Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go had been proclaimed PDP-Laban’s presidential bet, but he declined the nomination as he’s not interested in running for president in upcoming elections.
“No, I will not share my light this time,” the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) chairperson said in response to a query from the media on whether or not PDP-Laban can expect HNP’s help like it did during the 2019 senatorial race.
Even before Mayor Sara could reveal her plans for the 2022 national elections, she and the HNP already renewed alliances with some pro-administration parties, but not the PDP-Laban.
The agreements had been discussed by involved party leaders and the Hugpong ng Pagbabago and were expected to be signed as soon as Mayor Sara confirmed she’s running for president.
Among those who were willing to support her presidential bid were the following: Nacionalista Party, Lakas-CMD, People’s Reform Party, and National Unity Party.
Mayor Sara didn’t comment on the senatorial line-up that PDP-Laban announced during its national convention in San Fernando, Pampanga last Wednesday.

To recall, Mayor Sara led a nationwide campaign for 13 senatorial candidates last 2019 as head of the Hugpong ng Pagbabago. Among the PDP-Laban members included in the list were the following: incumbent Senators Ronald “Bato” de la Rosa, Francis Tolentino, and Bong Go.
Mayor Sara disclosed in the message to reporters that with her father being named as the vice-presidential bet of the Cusi-led PDP-Laban, her presidential bid, if there’s any, had been set aside in order to give way to her father’s candidacy.
She explained that there’s an agreement in the family that only one among them can run for a national position. When asked about her relationship with her father, Mayor Duterte said nothing has changed.
“Our politics do not interfere with our familial relationship. Iba ang trabaho, iba ang pamilya. Walang personalan,” Mayor Sara stressed.
Meanwhile, HNP president Davao Occidental Gov. Claude Bautista appeared unconvinced that the presidential daughter has made her final decision on the presidency.
