Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte confirmed that she will no longer run for a national post.
On Thursday, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte confirmed that she will no longer run for a national post in the 2022 elections.
According to Mayor Sara, she will no longer run for president in the 2022 elections amidst the declaration of the Cusi-led PDP-Laban party that her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, will be the ruling party’s vice-presidential candidate next year.
However, Manila Bulletin reported that Mayor Sara’s statement had a tinge of ambivalence as she admitted that there’s a “Plan B”, which was for Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go to take the president’s place as a vice-presidential candidate.
“Yes, I am not running for a national position as we both agreed only one of us will run for a national position in 2022. It (nomination of the chief executive) does not affect any of my plans but as we both agreed only one from the family will run for a national position,” Mayor Sara said in reaction to a text query from reporters.

However, in response to Senator Bong Go’s “positioning” on his nomination as the ruling party’s standard-bearer, she admitted that there’s a “Plan B”.
Based on a report on Manila Bulletin, Mayor Sara explained that from the last time she and her father talked, the PDP-Laban proclamation was their “Plan A” and the “Plan B” was for Senator Bong Go to run as vice president.
Mayor Sara was also asked to comment on the Cusi-led PDP-Laban’s decision during its national convention in San Fernando, Pampanga last Wednesday.
“I think it turned out the way the Cusi faction wanted it to go down,” the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) chairperson said.
