DILG Issues Show Cause Order Vs. Mayor Isko Moreno Over 2018 Alleged Failure
MAYOR ISKO MORENO – The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) withdrew the show cause order against the Manila City Mayor.
Recently, a lot of people were surprised by the show cause order issued by the DILG against Mayor Moreno. It was over the alleged failure of Moreno to implement a 2018 memorandum that was related to the war against drugs.
The anti-drug campaign is one of the staunch campaign promises of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. He previously vowed to put an end to the presence of drugs in the Philippines within six (6) months or he will leave his post. However, years have passed and the fight is yet over.
According to the President, he might have miscalculated its presence and extent in the country. Meanwhile, undeniably, several laboratories were discovered and many people involved in the problem, both private and known individuals, were nabbed.
The show-cause order against Moreno ordered the Manila City Mayor to explained his alleged failure to comply with the Implementing Guidelines on the Functionality and Effectiveness of Local Anti-Drug Abuse Councils. He was given 10 days to make his response.
In 2018, Moreno was not yet the mayor of the capital city. It was former President and Manila City Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada then who was in the mayoralty position.
Recently, based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the DILG withdrew the show-cause order against Manila Mayor Isko Moreno. Ricojudge Janvier Echiverri, the DILG Undersecretary for External and Legislative Affairs, said that it was an “inadvertent re-issuance”.
In 2018, Moreno was serving as an undersecretary for Luzon Affairs of the Social Welfare and Development. He only became mayor in 2019 after he defeated the former President in the election.
