Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Says He Left NUP To Search For Party That Prioritizes People’s Welfare

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno said that he left NUP to search for a new political party that prioritizes people’s welfare

On Thursday, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said that he left the National Unity Organization (NUP) in order to search for a new political party that prioritized the people’s welfare.

When asked why he left NUP, Moreno said in an interview over DZRH that his local party, Asenso Manileño, had different views as they will look for a new political party that they thought prioritized the people’s welfare and not just one person.

Moreno’s statement came after he resigned as vice chairman for political affairs and member of NUP ahead of filing candidacies for the upcoming 2022 national elections.

Moreno was set to join the Aksyon Demokratiko party and was supposed to take his oath on Thursday afternoon. However, he decided to put off the ceremony as some COVID-19 vaccination sites were flocked by thousands of people in Manila, resulting in overcrowding which was feared to cause a “superspreader event”.

He explained that he’s grateful to Aksyon Demokratiko because the party had the same goals and direction as his local party.

Moreno was a part of the National Unity Organization for about six years before leaving the party. The NUP also backed Moreno’s failed senatorial bid last 2016.

The Manila mayor has yet to say whether his transfer to the new political party would mean he’ll be running for a higher post in the upcoming 2022 national elections.

Meanwhile, Moreno admonished a blogger he described as “bayaran” for sharing a photo that falsely presented an allegedly jam-packed COVID-19 vaccination site in his jurisdiction.

Moreno didn’t mention the name of the said blogger, but the Manila Public Information Office earlier tagged as “fake news” a Facebook post from Mocha Uson Blog bearing a photo of people supposedly overcrowding a facility for vaccination against COVID-19 in the city of Manila.

While the city of Manila’s COVID-19 vaccination sites were faced with a huge turnout of people who wanted to be vaccinated against COVID-19 on Thursday, the questionable photo making the rounds on social media and shared by the unnamed blogger was of a COVID-19 vaccination site in Antipolo City.
