Update on Cebu City Hospitals amid COVID-19 Cases Spike
CEBU CITY HOSPITALS – Healthcare facilities in Cebu City reportedly reached their full capacity for COVID-19 following the surge in cases.
The challenge against the spread of the COVID-19 in the Philippines undeniably doubled due to the presence of the Delta variant in the country. It is currently the variant of concern for its higher transmissibility.
According to the Department of Health (DOH), cases of local transmissions of the Delta variant were logged. Prior to it, the health department already told the public that it is not impossible for the said variant of concern to reach PH and the important thing is to prepare for it.
The national government extended the travel restrictions in the pursuit to prevent the entry and the spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19 in the country.

Cebu province is one of the provinces in the Philippines that recorded cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19. Undeniably, the current situation in the province sparked alarm.
Photos of some patients receiving their oxygen inside their vehicles spread on social media. Some patients were also admitted outside the hospital along the hallway.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Cebu City hospitals hit their full capacity for COVID-19 patients. Cemeteries are also struggling as coronavirus patients who died must either be cremated or be buried within 24 hours.
Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak clarified that not all Cebu City hospitals are full but the hospitals got all their COVID-19 beds occupied. He also expressed that the emergency rooms are full that is why ambulance vehicles are in the queue.
Many people are also buying oxygen tanks. Currently, there are still no official statements linking the Delta variant to the increase in the COVID-19 cases in the city.
