CASH ASSISTANCE FOR WORKERS – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) spoke on the financial aid for workers amid the Metro Manila ECQ.
The detection of the Delta variant of COVID-19 in the Philippines called for an intensified fight against the spread of coronavirus. This variant hooked attention after it caused the collapse of the healthcare system of India.
Furthermore, the Delta variant was considered a factor in the increase of the COVID-19 cases in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the United States, and several other nations.
Currently, PH is not allowing the entry of travelers from several nations including Indonesia, India, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It is part of the measures to fight the spread of the Delta cases.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte also approved the proposal of the pandemic task force of a two-week strict lockdown in Metro Manila. From August 6-20, Metro Manila will be under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), the strictest quarantine measure.

Many Filipinos in Metro Manila are worried about their finances amid the ECQ. Many people are working under a daily wage scheme and they don’t know how to cope with the 14-day lockdown.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) confirmed that they are talking with other agencies for possible cash assistance to the workers who will be affected by the ECQ.
According to DOLE Chief Silvestre Bello III, his department has some funds that were left from the budget given by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and the Office of the President but it would be better if they would be given more in preparation for the ECQ.
Based on the report, Bello expressed that the cash assistance for workers includes those who are in the formal and informal sectors. The DOLE Chief expressed that formal workers may avail the one-time cash assistance worth Php 5,000.00 under the COVID-19 Adjustment Measure Program (CAMP).
With regards to the informal workers, they will be paid based on the minimum wage for cleaning their front yard or schools. As of this writing, there are still not much details as the talk happens. More updates may be posted soon.
