Fire incident takes lives of 2 sisters in Sorsogon
Two sisters were killed after being trapped in their burning house in Matnog, Sorsogon.
The country continues to experience disastrous fires from time to time.
In fact, from 2013 to 2017, the BFP recorded a total of 77,724 fire incidents, or an average of 15,545 fire incidents every year or 42 fire incidents a day.
During the period, the total estimated damage to property reached P23.273 billion, or an average of P4.65 billion every year.
At the time, 1,257 people were killed or an average of 251 deaths every year.
On the other hand, from January to October 2019, the Bureau of Fire Protection responded to 16,408 fire incidents nationwide.
As per the record, 7,865 were structural, 7,660 were nonstructural and 883 were vehicular fires. The estimated amount of property damage for 2019 was P6.36 billion.
Among the top three causes of fires in residential areas are electrical connection, lighted cigarette butt, and open flame.
Meanwhile, two sisters were killed after being trapped in their burning house in Sorsogon.
The victims were identified as “Tinay,” 18, and “Baby,” 11.
Based on the report of TNT ABante, it was found out that the fire started at the house of the victims in Barangay Tablac of the said province.
When the victims’ house lost power, they lit a candle near their gas storage, which was the source of the fire.
The victims’ mother and their father, Manuel Gardon, were rescued but four more houses were engulfed by flames.
The Bureau of Fire and Protection is still conducting an investigation regarding the incident.
