The Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) has reacted to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III’s proposal to dissolve licensure exams for graduate students.
According to PNA President Melbert Reyes, the level of quality nurses in the country will decrease if board exams are abolished especially since human lives are at stake.
“Hindi puwede ‘yan, buhay kasi ang hinahawakan namin eh. We need to ensure that health professionals are competent enough,” he said in an interview with dzBB according to TNT Abante.
“Bababa po ‘yung quality, actually, ‘pag hindi tayo nag-board exam. Bababa ‘yung level natin,” he added.
It can be recalled that Bello said that the licensure exam should be abolished because, he said, a few years of study for nurses is enough.
He added that the board exams only add to the expenses of the graduates.
“Katakot-takot na pag-aaral ‘yan. Imagine, ‘yung eight years of studies mo will be brought to naught just because you failed in passing the bar. Wala akong nakikitang katarungan doon eh,” he explained.
