At present, Metro Manila was seeing a slight uptick of coronavirus cases, which Belmonte said, “could be indicative of the Delta variant spreading”. However, Belmonte noted that more cases of the variant were detected in areas outside of the National Capital Region (NCR).

Belmonte said in an interview over ABS CBN’s TeleRadyo that Metro Manila mayors have a proposal to require COVID-19 RT-PCR testing to travelers coming from areas with high occurrence of the Delta COVID-19 variant.

However, Belmonte clarified that the said proposal was yet to be discussed with the national government’s COVID-19 policy-making body, the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF).

At present, 7 of the 22 local Delta COVID-19 variant cases were found in Metro Manila. Of these, four were from Manila City, two from Pasig City, and one from Taguig City.

According to Belmonte, no Delta COVID-19 variant cases have been detected in Quezon City so far.

Other Delta COVID-19 variant cases were found in Northern Mindanao and Central Luzon with 6 each, and Western Visayas and Calabarzon with 2 each. The Philippines currently has 47 cases of the Delta COVID-19 variant.
