From 90 Sessions To 144 Sessions: PhilHealth Raises Limit For Free Dialysis Coverage

PhilHealth raised the limit for its free dialysis coverage.

The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) raised the limit for free dialysis coverage from 90 sessions to 144 sessions, available until December 31, 2021.

PhilHealth raised the limit for its free dialysis coverage.

In a PhilHealth Circular No. 2021-0009 published on July 2, the state health insurer said that the expanded hemodialysis coverage covered its members and their dependents with chronic kidney disease stage 5 (CKD 5) who were currently enrolled in the PhilHealth Dialysis Database (PDD).

The state health insurer also said that the circular took effect immediately upon publication in a newspaper of general circulation.

The policy covered the 91st to 144th outpatient hemodialysis sessions conducted in the remaining months of this year. However, PhilHealth clarified that any unused hemodialysis sessions will not be carried over to 2022.

In issuing the circular, PhilHealth noted that the coronavirus pandemic continued to challenge the health system and has led to devastating impacts on poverty and loss of human life.

The cost of hemodialysis can be a financial barrier in accessing healthcare and can push the patients and their families to financial hardships. Cognizant to the needs of its members, PhilHealth intends to increase the coverage of hemodialysis while balancing the available resources to fund this benefit,” PhilHealth said.
