On Saturday, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that they’re hopeful that President Duterte will encourage lawmakers to approve the CDC measure.

Ang isa pong gusto namin talagang i-push (What we really wanted to push), which is now with the Congress and Senate, would be the Philippine CDC–this is the Center for Disease Control,” Vergeire said.

Vergeire also said that the Philippine Center for Disease Control will be helpful in responding to other possible health threats.

This, according to Vergeire, will integrate and strengthen their systems during public health emergencies and will also provide appropriate cadres of technical experts, healthcare workers, and scientists to assist for future responses in times of pandemic.
