DITO, Smart, and Globe launched a joint venture for mobile number portability.
DITO Telecommunity, Smart Communications, and Globe Telecom officially launched a joint venture for mobile number portability.
Two months before the Philippine government officially implemented Republic Act No. 11202 or the “Mobile Number Portability Act”, telcos have officially launched a new company that would focus on the porting service.
In a virtual briefing, Telecommunications Connectivity Inc (TCI) General Manager Melanie Manuel said that telcos were financing the operations of the company as they prepared for the implementation of the mobile number portability starting September 30, 2021.
According to Manuel, the group was doing its best in order to meet the end-September deadline.

Just this Monday, telcos said in a joint statement that they already conducted their initial tests for the mobile number portability and the outcome was “within expectations”.
Manuel also said in the press conference that the Mobile Number Portability Act will benefit Filipinos as this will further push telecommunications companies to enhance their networks.
“MNP will encourage competitors to expand their network, improve customer service, and expand products. At the end of the time, ang panalo ay regular Filipinos,” Manuel said.
To recall, the Philippine government had been pushing for mobile number portability to allow Filipinos to switch to other telecommunications providers while keeping their mobile numbers.
