Manila City is one of eight cities in the Asia-Pacific region included in the final round for the 2021 Global Mayors Challenge.

The competition aims to identify cities with great and innovative ideas to address the COVID-19 pandemic.

“On behalf of the more than two million residents of the City of Manila and indeed on behalf of every Filipino wherever they are in the Philippines or around the world for whom their national capital occupies an outsize role in their hearts and minds, we are hugely honored that Manila has been named as one of 50 select Champion Cities for the Bloomberg Philanthropies 2021 Global Mayor’s Challenge,” Isko Moreno said.

Manila will go through the last part of the competition where they have to improve their proposals and it will run from June to October.

Only 15 cities will be selected to win the $1M grand prize and multi-year technical assistance in their proposal to be submitted to Bloomberg.

The idea presented by the LGU is “Go Manila,” which aims to provide digital data infrastructure to its residents for “digital education, engagement, analytics, and opportunity while improving policies and programs for good governance.”
