The Department of Education (DepEd) will consult the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) and the Department of Health (DOH) on the possible resumption of face-to-face classes.
On Tuesday, Education Secretary Leonor Briones said that the Department of Education will consult with the Department of Health and the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases on the possible resumption of face-to-face classes amidst the threat of the double-mutant COVID-19 variant first detected in India.
Briones also said that after the consultations, the Department of Education will then submit its recommendations to President Rodrigo Duterte who has the final say on whether or not physical classes will be resumed.
“Ang DepEd, kung siya ay magbibigay ng advice sa President, ay kailangan din komunsulta sa IATF, sa DOH dahil ang expertise ng mga pag-aaral nila ay sa itong variant na ito,” Briones said.

Briones added that the DepEd had planned to hold a dry run of limited face-to-face classes in certain areas earlier this year but President Duterte canceled it because of the threat of COVID-19 variants.
She also said that the education department was ready for the reopening of classes in the next school year as President Duterte has yet to decide on when the classes can resume.
Moreover, Briones said that the DepEd was ready to resume either limited face-to-face classes or purely remote means.
The DepEd, according to Briones, will provide three options or three dates to President Duterte to choose from for the opening of the next school year.
