Comedian Shalala died at the age of 61.
Comedian Carmelito “Tolites” Reyes, who was known by his showbiz screen name “Shalala”, died at the age of 61.
Shalala’s sibling Anthony Reyes confirmed to PEP that the comedian died this Wednesday morning, June 23, 2021. Based on a report on PEP, Shalala’s cause of death was “pulmonary tuberculosis”.
“Na-confine po siya sa National Kidney Institute noong isang linggo. Pero noong lumabas siya, parang mahina pa rin. Pero afterwards, nakitaan siya ng progress, gumaganda ang kundisyon niya. Noong Tuesday, June 22, itinakbo namin siya sa Fe del Mundo Medical Center. Ni-revive siya kahapon, nahabol naman hanggang kagabi, pero namatay na po siya kanina. Nawalan po kami ng pakpak,” Anthony told PEP in an interview.
As of this writing, the place where Shalala’s remains will be buried was still being prepared and so Anthony can’t give complete details yet.

Shalala was born on January 20, 1960.
Prior to becoming a showbiz personality, Shalala worked as advertising and promotions coordinator of Millennium Films, Maverick Films, and Viva Films.
The late TV host and star builder German “Kuya Germs” Moreno gave Shalala a break on television and radio. Shalala’s TV programs back then included TV5’s Juicy and Swerte Swerte Lang, and GMA-7’s Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman.
Shalala also appeared in films and had a launching movie “Echoserang Frog” in 2014.
