Word of the day according to Oxford English Dictionary is Bakya
BAKYA – The traditional Filipino sandal was featured by the Oxford English Dictionary on Tuesday as the “word of the day.”
In a tweet by a well-known dictionary, bakya was described in noun as a type of sandal that has no back and has a thick wooden sole and a strap made of either rattan, plastic, or some other material.
According to them, it is traditionally worn in rural areas in the Philippines and sometimes has a carved or painted heel.
Based on the dictionary website, bakya can also be used as an adjective which means colloquial or destructive criticism on things that lack refinement or sophistication.
