In a public press briefing on Saturday, DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that eight recipients of the Russian-made Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine experienced minor adverse events following immunization.

Vergeire, however, didn’t mention the number of Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine doses already administered in the country.

According to Vergeire, the reported side effects include the following: injection site pain, body aches, rashes, headache, back pain, dizziness, and increase in blood pressure.

Among those given with Sputnik V vaccine for these past days, meron po tayong walong reported na adverse events and lahat po ito ay non-serious or minor. But all of these were managed at lahat po sila ay nakauwi din pagkatapos,” Vergeire said.

It was last May 5 when the Department of Health said that 2,634 individuals have received their first dose of the Russian-made Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine.

The first 15,000 doses of the said vaccine arrived in the Philippines last May 1 and the initial doses of the said vaccine brand were allotted to five cities within the National Capital Region — Manila, Paranaque, Taguig, Makati, and Muntinlupa.

Moreover, Vergeire said that the Department of Health had not received reports of mishandling of the said vaccines, which required storage in temperatures not exceeding -18 degrees Celsius.
