DOTr to investigate vandalism of MRT-3 train

MRT-3 – A Metro Rail Transit Line 3 train halted its operation after it was vandalized.

Transportation Assistant Secretary Goddes Libiran took to social media wherein she posted a snap of the incident.

In the series of photos, the word “CRANK” can be seen written on the train.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is already investigating the incident.

According to Libiran, it is possible that those who spray paint on the train passed through the damaged perimeter fence at Taft Avenue Station.

Meanwhile, Vandalism is the action involving deliberate destruction of or damage to public or private property.

It includes property damage, such as graffiti and defacement directed towards any property without permission of the owner.

Anyone found guilty of vandalism may incur the following penalties according to legacy.senate.gov.ph:

  • For the First Offense, the payment of a fine in the amount of PhP5,OOO;
  • For the Second Offense, the payment of a fine in the amount of PhP8,OOO; and
  • For the Third Offense, the payment of a fine in the amount of PhP10,000, plus imprisonment of not less than 30 days but not more than one (1) year depending on the gravity of the infraction. In determining the gravity of the infraction, the court shall consider the extent and the amount of the damage caused to the property in question.
