In a statement, the EMA said that the most common side effects — pain at the injection site, chills, headache, tiredness, muscle and joint pain, and fever — in children aged 12 to 15 were similar to those in people aged 16 and above and those effects were usually mild or moderate and improved within a few days from the vaccination.

The EMA added that the benefits of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine outweighed the risks for the said age group.

Dr. Marco Cavaleri, Head of Biological Health Threats and Vaccines Strategy for the EMA, said that the said vaccine “was already authorized in people from 16 and above, and now we have data that will show that the vaccine is also safe in the age of 12 to 15 years.”

The said approval from the EMA scientific committee will then be sent to the European Commission, which will issue the final approval to use the said vaccine for patients aged 12 to 15.

According to the EMA, every European member state can then decide whether or not to use the said vaccine in younger patients.

Meanwhile, FDA Director-General Eric Domingo revealed on Wednesday that the Philippine government was set to allow the use of the said vaccine for those aged 12 to 15 years.
