On May 5, 2021, Kapamilya stars commemorated the first anniversary of the ABS-CBN shutdown.
These include veteran actress Cherry Pie Picache.
On her Instagram account, she shared an art card from ABS-CBN News that read: “ISANG TAON NA. #ABSCBNShutdown”
In the caption, the actress said that she wishes for the station to be “free.”
The 50-year-old actress wrote: “Ang aking dasal, makita ka muling malaya.”
In the comments section, a netizen questioned Cherry Pie for using the word “malaya.”
According to the netizen, ABS-CBN is not being imprisoned. They are also not banned from airing shows and news.
Then, the netizen told Cherry Pie to stop the “drama” because only “uto-uto” believe in her “kaeklatan.”
To which she replied: “ang pagiging malaya ba ay synonymous sa pagkakakulong lang?”
“Kung sabagay… sinasabing malaya pero nakakulong tayo… drama? Kaeklatan?,” she noted.
“siguradong sigurado ka siguro sa bayan na kakalakihan ng anak, pamilya at kung sinong kabataan na mahal mo. Good for you!!” she added.
It was on May 5, 2020, when the country’s largest television network bid goodbye to free TV.
It stopped airing by virtue of the Cease and Desist Order (CDO) of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).
