Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday talked with Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin via teleconference.
In a statement, President Duterte had an open and productive telesummit with President Putin on Tuesday evening.
President Duterte and President Putin reaffirmed their shared commitment in order to further enhance cooperation as Russia and the Philippines commemorated the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year and also vowed to cooperate in the fight against the deadly coronavirus disease.
In addition, President Duterte thanked President Putin for Russia’s commitment to bolster cooperation in different areas — including in combatting the coronavirus pandemic.
Also, President Duterte and President Putin talked about the global and regional vaccine landscapes, noting that COVID-19 vaccines such as Gamaleya’s Sputnik V must be mobilized to as many countries as possible.

The Philippines was ordering 20 million Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine doses from Russia and both Leaders stressed the importance of ramping up global production and supplies.
Both President Duterte and President Putin underscored the need for continuing and strengthened collaboration in order to defeat the coronavirus pandemic.
Also, President Duterte and President Putin noted the steady progress in defense and security cooperation between Russia and the Philippines, fostered by regular exchanges between intelligence, defense, and military agencies, and vowed to sustain the momentum gained over the past 5 years.

President Vladimir Putin highlighted the positive trajectory of Philippines-Russia relations and emphasized the many opportunities for greater cooperation in the fields of trade and investments, agriculture, and energy development even as both Russia and the Philippines worked on further enhancing political-security cooperation.
Moreover, President Duterte reiterated his invitation for President Putin to visit the Philippines as circumstances allow, which President Putin welcomed.
During the telesummit, President Duterte was joined by Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go and Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. The teleconference lasted around 30 minutes.
