The NPC was investigating the alleged large-scale Facebook breach.
The National Privacy Commission (NPC) was investigating the alleged large-scale Facebook breach, which was said to affect 533 million users worldwide.
The NPC had started validating information alleging that a large-scale Facebook breach had compromised 879,699 Facebook accounts of Filipinos.
In a statement, the NPC said that its initial information showed that data leaked included full names, location, phone numbers, e-mail address, and biographical information of Facebook users across several countries. The data breach was said to affect 533 million Facebook users worldwide.
With this, the NPC had already reached out to Facebook’s data privacy officer in the Philippines in order to gather more information about the said matter.

The NPC also said that they highly encouraged Facebook users to be more cautious online, adding that they reiterated the need for the regular changing of passwords and the activation of “two-step authentication” of accounts in order to safeguard their personal information as well.
Moreover, the National Privacy Commission assured the public that the NPC was on top of the said matter.
“As we await more answers, we highly encourage Facebook users to be more cautious online. We reiterate the need for the regular changing of passwords and the activation of two-step authentication of accounts to safeguard their personal information. We assure the public that the NPC is on top of this matter,” the NPC said.
Last 2019, Facebook allegedly found and fixed a vulnerability that enabled hackers to download over 533 million user account details.
The said issue reportedly reemerged online when someone posted over 533 million user accounts — including the 879,699 Facebook users from the Philippines.
