Francisco Duque III received his first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque III on Friday received his first dose of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine.
In a report on GMA News Online, Duque received his first dose of COVID-19 vaccine in Manila City.
According to the Department of Health, Duque received the CoronaVac COVID-19 vaccine developed by China’s Sinovac Biotech.
Duque was quoted as saying that he invited the public to get vaccinated and choose to be protected as he received his dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
“Let us all take part in protecting public health, and let us be in unison in spreading one message: that vaccines are safe, and vaccines are effective,” Duque said.

Duque’s COVID-19 vaccination followed the approval of the use of Sinovac’s CoronaVac COVID-19 vaccine on senior citizens.
Earlier, Duque deferred his vaccination since Sinovac’s CoronaVac COVID-19 vaccine was initially recommended for clinically healthy individuals aged 18 to 59 years old only.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) eventually allowed the use of the said vaccine on the elderly amidst a shortage of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine doses.
As of April 20, the Philippines had inoculated more than 1.3 million health workers, senior citizens, and persons with comorbidities.
