The WHO had listed the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use worldwide
The World Health Organization (WHO) had recently listed the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use worldwide.
The World Health Organization on Friday announced that it had listed the COVID-19 vaccine from Johnson & Johnson for use in its COVAX program and for emergency use worldwide.
COVAX — the WHO-led program coordinating global access to COVID-19 vaccines — had already booked 500 million Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine doses in preparation for further WHO guidelines on the rollout.
WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Friday said that the COVAX facility had booked 500 million Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine doses as they looked forward to receiving the vaccines as soon as possible.
Ghebreyesus also said that healthcare workers and older people worldwide needed the said vaccine and COVAX was ready to deliver it.

“The COVAX facility has booked 500 million doses of the J&J vaccine. We look forward to receiving them as soon as possible. Health care workers and older people all around the world need this vaccine, and COVAX is ready to deliver it,” Ghebreyesus said.
The J&J COVID-19 vaccine was the first single-dose COVID-19 vaccine to receive WHO emergency use listing (EUL) and the 4th vaccine to receive this designation overall.
Last February 27, the United States Food and Drug Administration had issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines in the United States.
