Parañaque Mayor Must Explain Why An Actor Got Vaccine Priority – DILG

Parañaque Mayor Must Explain Actor Mark Anthony Fernandez’ Vaccination

PARAÑAQUE MAYOR MUST EXPLAIN – In the government’s priority list for vaccination, health professionals are on the top. However, what’s not in the top of the list is actors.

As such, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) said they would issue a show-cause order against Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez. Recently, actor Mark Anthony Fernandez reportedly got vaccinated against COVID-19.

Parañaque Mayor Must Explain Why An Actor Got Vaccine Priority – DILG

For this reason, the DILG emphasized that Olivarez needed to explain how an actor got to skip the priority list. According to an article from Inquirer, DILG Secretary Epimaco Densing said:

“Ipapalabas na natin, hopefully this afternoon, ang show-cause order kay Mayor Edwin Olivarez para magpaliwanag siya”

The DILG further noted that that Olivarez needed to command responsibility to ensure the vaccination protocols are followed within his jurisdiction. As a response, Olivarez explained that Fernandez has “comorbidities”, therefore qualifying him to get an early shot.

But, Densing was not buying this explanation. According to him, the mayor was just making up an excuse to justify the VIP treatment of the actor.

“Excuse na lang nila ‘yun nung nalaman, lumabas sa balita na nakapagpalusot sila ng non-priority individual. Gumawa na lang sila ng rason”.

Moreover, Densing stated that he received information that individuals, including government officials who aren’t part of the priority list were also receiving vaccines.

“Kapag sinabing priority list, kapag hindi available ‘yung babakunahan, yung substitue dapat nandoon din sa priority individuals. Hindi sila dapat tumalon sa labas“, Densing added.

Currently, the Philippines is procuring its vaccines through the COVAX facility which has a set protocol for vaccine distribution. Breaking the rules such as skipping priority for health workers may cause the Philippines’ its spot in vaccine procurement.
