President Duterte would wait for Sinopharm to secure EUA for its COVID-19 vaccine.
Malacañang on Tuesday said that President Rodrigo Duterte would wait for Sinopharm to secure emergency use authorization (EUA) for its COVID-19 vaccine.
In an online briefing, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said that President Duterte would wait for the emergency use authorization because Sinopharm already applied for an emergency use authorization.
“Mag-aantay po si Presidente ng EUA dahil nabalita ko nga po kahapon na meron na pong nag-apply for the EUA of Sinopharm. So magaantay na lang siya ng approval ng Sinopharm,” Roque said.
Roque added that Malacañang would no longer seek inclusion of the President in the “compassionate use license” of China’s Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine issued to the Presidential Security Group (PSG) by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Sinopharm’s EUA application was currently under FDA’s evaluation as confirmed by FDA Director-General Eric Domingo.

Last year, the Presidential Security Group admitted using unauthorized COVID-19 vaccines to vaccinate some of their members as early as September 2020.
Columnist and former special envoy to China Ramon “Mon” Tulfo also recently admitted that he’s inoculated against COVID-19 using China’s Sinopharm last October 2020 along with other government officials.
The Food and Drug Administration, the Department of Health (DOH), and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) were investigating the illegal COVID-19 vaccination issue.
