The DOH clarified that a PhilHealth ID number was “not required” for COVID-19 vaccination

PHILHEALTH ID NUMBER — The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday clarified that a PhilHealth Identification Number (PIN) was “not required” for COVID-19 vaccination.

DOH PhilHealth ID Number

In a report on GMA News Online, the Department of Health said in a statement that the PhilHealth ID number was only required when claiming PhilHealth benefits in cases of adverse events following immunization.

According to the Department of Health, the national government will set up registration booths at official vaccination sites to facilitate onsite PhilHealth registration in order to ensure PhilHealth coverage of Filipinos who were not yet registered to PhilHealth.

Also, the Department of Health reiterated that under the Universal Health Care (UHC) Law, all Filipinos — whether direct or indirect contributors — were “automatic members of PhilHealth”.

To ensure PhilHeath coverage of Filipinos who are not yet registered to PhilHealth in cases of AEFI that need hospitalization, the government will set up registration booths at official vaccination sites to facilitate onsite PhilHealth registration. The DOH further reiterates that under the Universal Health Care (UHC) Law, all Filipinos, whether direct or indirect contributors, including dependents of contributors, indigent members, senior citizens, and persons with disability, are automatic members of PhilHealth,” the Department of Health said.

The Department of Health’s clarification came after the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) said that the PhilHealth ID number was a requirement prior to receiving a COVID-19 vaccine.

According to PhilHealth President and CEO Dante A. Gierran, they encouraged their members to know and keep their PhilHealth Identification Number in order to prevent delays and problems during vaccination.

Meanwhile, vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said that those who were expected to receive a COVID-19 vaccine may present any valid ID — government-issued identification card such as PhilHealth ID, driving license, PRC license, UMID, and passport — prior to vaccination.
