The filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) from President down to Municipal Councilor — as well as the filing of nomination and acceptance — were on October 1 to 8 (including weekends).
Party-list groups can also file their list of nominees during the said period, which was longer compared to the previous elections.
Earlier, Comelec bared plans to allot more days for the filing of certificates of candidacy in order to make sure that health protocols were observed amidst the coronavirus crisis.
The tentative list of candidates would be posted on October 29, 2021, while the final nominees would be known by November 30, 2021. Comelec said that the election period was from January 9, 2022 to June 8, 2022.
The campaign period for President, Vice President, Senator, and party-list groups was from February 8, 2022 to May 7, 2022. Campaigning was prohibited on April 14 and 15, 2022 for the Holy Week break.
In addition, those running for seats at the House of Representatives — as well as elective regional, provincial, city and municipal posts — can campaign from March 25, 2022 until May 7, 2022.
Meanwhile, the Constitution set elections on May 9, 2022, which fall on the second Monday of May. Local absentee voters can cast their votes from April 27 to April 29, while voters overseas can cast their votes until May 9.
Moreover, Comelec listed prohibited acts during election day — including opening of stalls or booths for sale of merchandise or refreshments within a 30-meter radius from the precinct; voting more than once; and holding of cockfights, fairs, boxing horse races, and other similar sports.
