Filipinos Can’t Choose COVID-19 Vaccine Brand ‘Hindi pwede pihikan’, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque Says
The Malacañang Palace said that the Filipinos can’t choose the COVID-19 vaccine brand they would receive from the Philippine government.
On Monday (January 11, 2020), Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that Filipino people could not choose the brand of the COVID-19 vaccine they will receive after latest surveys show a lot of Filipinos are hesitant to receive the vaccine.
Roque explained that the individuals who were included on the vaccination priority list might lose their slot in the list if they would refuse to accept the vaccine. The recipients can sign a waiver if they don’t want to receive the vaccine assigned to them.
“Wala pong pilian, wala po kasing pilitan… Tama lang naman po ‘yan, walang pilian kasi hindi naman natin mako-control talaga kung ano’ng darating at libre po ito, Totoo po, meron tayong lahat na karapatan para sa mabuting kalusugan pero hindi naman po pwede na pihikan dahil napakaraming Pilipino na dapat turukan,” Roque said.
The Presidential Spokesperson said that the inter-agency task force has yet to issue a resolution regarding the coronavirus pandemic. Meanwhile, the national government has secured some vaccine supplies from China’s Sinovac, UK drug group AstraZeneca, and the Serum Institute of India.
The authorities said that the Philippine government is currently having a negotiation with seven vaccine manufacturers to procure around 148 million vaccine shots.
