As previously reported, microblogging platform Twitter was the first social media app to permanently suspend Trump’s @realDonaldTrump account, believed to spur the riots at the United States Capitol.

Gizguide reported that social media giants Instagram and Facebook also “indefinitely banned” Trump from their respective platforms. Facebook was looking to ban Trump until President-elect Joe Biden took the presidency position on January 20, 2021.

China’s TikTok and American multimedia messaging app Snapchat also followed suit. Social news and message board site Reddit also banned a subreddit forum that was dedicated to discussing and promoting Trump.

While Donald Trump had no TikTok account, TikTok banned all videos of Trump calling rioters as “very special” and claiming election fraud.

Although Donald Trump still had Parler, which considered itself as a “free speech” alternative to Twitter and Facebook, Google and Apple removed Parler from their respective stores for failing to monitor its users’ posts.

John Matze, the chief executive at Parler, claimed that tech titans’ recent move was aimed at killing competition.

Big tech really wants to kill competition. And I have a lot of work to do in the next 24 hours to make sure everyone’s data is not permanently deleted off the internet,” Matze said.

Other platforms that have restricted or banned Trump include Twitch, Discord, and Pinterest to name a few.
