Over 100 National Guard in Washington for inauguration had tested positive for COVID-19, according to a US official.
A United States official on Friday said that between 100 and 200 National Guard deployed to Washington D.C. to provide security for US President Joe Biden’s inauguration had tested positive for COVID-19.
In a report on Inquirer, the US official — speaking on the condition of anonymity — said that the number could increase but was still a small percentage of over 25,000 troops that were present in the city over the past few days.
With this, US President Joe Biden warned that the number of coronavirus deaths in the country was expected to surpass 600,000 and encouraged Congress to move fast on his USD 1.9 trillion plan to battle COVID-19 and to provide economic relief to struggling Americans.

While Biden called for an urgent passage of his “American Rescue Plan,” his efforts to get Congress to cooperate on his fast-paced agenda could be complicated by former US President Donald Trump’s looming impeachment trial in the Senate.
Top Democratic lawmakers on Friday said that they planned to send the article of impeachment passed by the House of Representatives to the Senate on Monday, triggering Donald Trump’s trial in the body.
“The virus is surging. We’re at 400,000 dead, expected to reach well over 600,000. Families are going hungry. People are at risk of being evicted. Job losses are mounting again. We need to act now… We need to move fast,” Biden told reporters at the White House before signing executive orders boosting food aid and speeding up stimulus payments to Americans.
