MMDA official on Valentine’s Day: “Yung minimum health protocols huwag nating kakalimutan.”
A Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) official reminded Metro Manila residents ahead of Valentine’s Day that they should observe minimum health protocols.
In a report on Manila Bulletin, MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia didn’t see the upcoming Valentine’s Day celebration — celebrated every February 14 of the year — next month as a huge challenge in terms of containing the spread of COVID-19.
This, despite “Hearts’ Day” being arguably the second-most cherished and commercialized occasion for Filipinos — next to Christmas.
Speaking in an impromptu press briefing with reporters through Zoom on Tuesday night, Garcia said that Valentine’s Day celebrations usually involved couples and not big groups of relatives or friends.
According to Garcia, the majority of those who celebrated Valentine’s Day were couples.

“Majority naman ng nagse-celebrate ng Valentine’s Day, couple yan. Magdi-dinner yan…hindi ganun kadami ang mass gathering, yung barkada magsasama-sama kayo, yung mag-anak magsasama-sama kayo, unlike Christmas,” Garcia said.
Garcia explained that Valentine’s Day was more for couples and their intimate moments as they would go out on dates, adding that it would be easier to control the spread of coronavirus disease since not many people would go out.
He bought up the comparison after one of the reporters asked him if he and the Metro Manila Council (MMC) had any reminders for Metro Manila residents ahead of Valentine’s Day.
Moreover, Garcia said that their reminder was to always observe minimum health protocols.

Garcia held the virtual presser right after meeting with the Metro Manila Council, which was composed of 17 mayors in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chairperson Benhur Abalos was also present at the said meeting.
