Gamaleya Institute would apply for EUA for COVID-19 vaccine in the Philippines this week, according to DOST.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) on Friday said that Russia’s Gamaleya Institute was filing for emergency use authorization (EUA) for their COVID-19 vaccine in the Philippines this week.
During a virtual Department of Health briefing, DOST Usec. Rowena Guevarra said that Gamaleya Institute would submit the requirements to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) either today or tomorrow.
According to Guevarra, Gamaleya Institute also withdrew its application for human clinical trials in the country.

Guevarra then explained that Gamaleya Institute had a simple reason for withdrawing its application for human clinical trials — they’re already applying for emergency use authorization and that’s the reason why they would no longer have clinical trials in the Philippines.
If Russia’s application pushed through, there would be three vaccine developers applying for emergency use authorization in the Philippines.

The Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday said that the agency had provided the list of requirements for emergency use authorization to Russia’s Gamaleya Institute for their COVID-19 vaccines.
“Gamaleya or Sputnik from Russia has asked and we have given them the requirements,” FDA Director-General Eric Domingo said.
