Civil rights groups in the US were demanding YouTube to remove the YouTube channel of Donald Trump, according to a report.
Civil rights groups in the United States would organize an advertiser boycott against YouTube if it didn’t remove the YouTube channel of US President Donald Trump, according to a report.
Jim Steyer, one of the organizers of the “Stop Hate for Profit” campaign which led more than 1,000 advertisers to boycott Facebook last July, told Reuters that the groups were demanding Alphabet’s YouTube to take down the verified YouTube channel of Donald Trump, which already had 2.77 million subscribers.
YouTube was the last major tech company that hasn’t banned Donald Trump from posting on its platforms.
Twitter, Facebook, and Snap Inc. had all blocked Donald Trump after supporters of the president stormed the US Capitol last week.
Steyer also said that Donald Trump’s YouTube channel gave him the opportunity to continue spreading false information that the US election was stolen.
Donald Trump’s YouTube channel on Tuesday posted eight new videos — including a video in which he told reporters “I think Big Tech has made a terrible mistake” by blocking him on social media platforms.
Neither the White House nor YouTube immediately responded to requests for comment as of this writing.

Steyer added that YouTube had told the groups that it was considering the demands but had yet to act.
“If YouTube does not agree with us and join the other platforms in banning Trump, we’re going to go to the advertisers,” Steyer said.
In a statement to Reuters, the NAACP said that they joined in with their coalition partners and asked that YouTube should act decisively in order to help stop the spread of hate by shutting Donald Trump’s account down.
Along with Steyer’s group Common Sense Media, the NAACP, Anti-Defamation League, and Color of Change were among the organizers of the “Stop Hate for Profit” campaign, which had recruited major advertisers — including Unilever and Verizon Communications — to pull their ads from Facebook over hate speech/concerns.
[UPDATE] YouTube released a statement in light of concerns from civil rights groups, saying that it temporarily suspended the YouTube channel of US President Donald Trump and also removed his new video content for violating its policy against inciting violence.
In a statement, YouTube said that it removed new content uploaded to the YouTube channel of Donald Trump for violating its policies in light of concerns about the ongoing potential for violence.
In addition, YouTube said that the channel was currently “temporarily prevented from uploading new content for a ‘minimum’ of 7 days“.
