France recorded its first case of the new strain of COVID-19
France recorded its first case of the new strain of COVID-19 as the number of cases and fatalities from COVID-19 mounted in the country.
This, as it raised concerns of a new wave of the coronavirus hitting the euro zone’s second-biggest economy.
According to the French health ministry, a Frenchman — who recently arrived back in France from London — had tested positive for the new strain of coronavirus disease.
The ministry also stated that the said case — the first case in France — had been found in the city of Tours as the Frenchman in question arrived from London last December 19 and he’s currently self-isolating and felt alright.

Last December 14, British Health Secretary Matt Hancock had said that an increase in coronavirus cases in the United Kingdom might have been linked to the new strain of COVID-19 in the country.
Accordng to Hancock, over 1,000 cases of the new strain of COVID-19 had been identified — mainly in southeastern England.
Recently, several countries around the world had closed their borders to both the UK and South Africa following the identification of cases of the new, fast-spreading strain of COVID-19 in those countries.
In the last 24 hours, France had recorded 20,262 newly-confirmed COVID-19 cases and 159 newly-recorded deaths in hospitals. This brought the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in France to 2,547,771, while its COVID-19 death toll stood at 62,427.
Aside from France, Singapore and Germany had also recorded their first case of the new strain of coronavirus disease.
