DepEd Readies For Face-To-Face Classes After Duterte Approval
DEPED READIES FACE-TO-FACE CLASSES – The Department of Education is preparing to implement a dry run for face-to-face classes next month.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, millions of Filipino students were pushed to the new online and modular learning platforms. However, as cases begin to drop in the Philippines, President Duterte gave his approval to conduct a dry run of face-to-face classes.
As such, according to an article from ABS-CBN, Education Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan said:
Mayroong tayong ini-impose na limitation with respect to the number of students in one class dahil that is required to ensure that we can have the proper physical distancing within the classroom. Hindi iyan magagawa kung nasa full class size tayo
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque emphasized that participation for the dry run would be completely voluntary. Furthermore, participants would require permission from the students’ parents.
Along with this, DepEd wanted to conduct staggered schedules with the face-to-face classes merely being supplements to online classes, modules, or tv and radio platforms.
Moreover, students in senior high under the technical-vocational livelihood track and those with difficulty in learning from home are amongst those who may participate.
Schools that want to participate in the dry run are also required to fulfill specific health protocols including proper ventilation and availability of basic protective equipment.
Meanwhile, the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) called on to the government to address issues such as lack of water facilities, clinics, and nurses in schools who plan to hold pilot testing of face-to-face classes.
