Puyat on Boracay party: “…please take our health and safety protocols seriously”
Tourism Secretary Bernadette Puyat slammed the Halloween Party that took place in Boracay Island amid the pandemic.
According to the secretary of the Department of Tourism, the mass gathering at Casa de Arte in Sitio Cagban, Barangay Manoc-Mano dated October 31 was “irresponsible.”
“We are appealing to our LGUs to please cooperate with us in the safe and responsible reopening of our tourist destinations. The jobs and livelihoods that were recently restored in these sites will be affected once again if an outbreak occurs in the area due to the LGU’s negligence,” she said.
“We urge our LGUs to please take our health and safety protocols seriously,” Puyat added.
Malay, Aklan Mayor Frolibar Bautista noted that the Halloween Party took place in a residence far from the beach area in Boracay.
Organizers of the said party were penalized with 5,000 due to the incident.
Criminal complaints were also filed by the Police Regional Office VI against the foreigners who wore police uniforms during the party.
This was in connection with the violation of Art. 179 of the Revised Penal Code (Illegal Use of Uniform).
The Bureau of Immigration was also requested by the police to declare the foreign nationals “undesirable aliens.”
